USGA reveals '13 U.S. Open local qualifying sites
Beau Hossler qualified for the U.S. Open through local and sectional qualifying sites in 2012.
The U.S. Golf Association announced the local qualifying sites for the U.S. Open, which will be played at Merion GC in Ardmore, Pa., on June 13-16. Qualifying will be conducted over 18 holes at 111 sites between May 3-16.
“The U.S. Open’s local and sectional qualifying process exemplifies a tremendous commitment by the state and regional associations and we are grateful for their support,” said USGA Vice President and Championship Committee Chairman Thomas J. O’Toole Jr. “U.S. Open qualifying remains unique and democratic in that every amateur golfer who meets the Handicap Index requirement can compete. Local qualifying is where the quest to play in our National Championship begins.”
Those players who locally qualify will advance to section qualifying, which will be conducted over 36 holes at 11 sites on June 3. England and Japan will host international qualifying scheduled for May 27.
Last year, eight players advanced through local and sectional qualifying, which included Scott Langley and Beau Hossler.
