Sunday, July 7, 2013
Andrew Dorn entered the match-play portion of the 113th North and South Amateur Championship as the lowest seed among the 16 qualifiers.
After four victories, including a 1-up win over Zachary Bauchou in the 18-hole final, the Coastal Carolina junior was the last player standing, winning the title Saturday at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C.
Dorn needed extra holes to win each of his first two matches. He then cruised to a 5-and-4 victory over Duke signee Max Greyserman in the semifinals Saturday morning.
In the final, Dorn took an early lead after a par at No. 5. Bauchou then squared the match back up at No. 7 before Dorn won the next two holes to take the lead for good. Birdies at Nos. 16-17 by Bauchou sent the match to the 18th hole, but both players halved the hole with bogey to give Dorn the 1-up victory.
Bauchou defeated Grayson Murray 1-up in the other semifinal.
