Johnson one shot back after 'best 3-wood of my life'
Dustin Johnson fired a 1-over 72 on Friday, but his first-round 68 has him one shot back of the leader Miguel Angel Jimenez at the Open Championship at Muirfield.
After opening with two bogeys in four holes, Johnson hit the 'best 3-wood of my life', he told ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi. He would go on to eagle the par-5 fifth. In his last 13 holes, he made three bogeys and two birdies.
In his last three Opens, Johnson has finished T-14, T-2 and T-9.
“I have always really enjoyed playing it (links golf),” he said.
This season, Johnson has one win on the PGA Tour (Hyundai Tournament of Champions) and has two other top-10 finishes.
Johnson took to twitter (@DJohnsonPGA) after his round: "Playing it one hole at a time, Muirfield is a great golf course. Don't get too high, don't get too low! #Open #WeekendWarrior."
