Big group stands 3-for-3 in year's majors
GULLANE, Scotland When the cut fell at 8-over 150, 84 players made it into weekend play of the Open Championship, the most since a whopping 103 advanced at St. Andrews in 1995.
It was the highest cut to par (8-over) since Royal Birkdale in 2008, and the highest aggregate (150) since Royal St. George's in 2003.
Of the 84 who moved on, 20 can say that they've made the cut in each of the season's three majors – K.J. Choi, Jason Day, Jason Dufner, Ernie Els, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Matt Kuchar, Paul Lawrie, Phil Mickelson, Carl Pettersson, Charl Schwartzel, Adam Scott, Brandt Snedeker, Henrik Stenson, Bo Van Pelt, Bubba Watson, Lee Westwood, and Tiger Woods.
Scott and Dufner share the longest stretch of cuts made in consecutive majors (eight), while three can claim the dubious distinction of having missed each of the three major cuts this year: Matteo Mannasero, Hiroyuki Fujita, and Louis Oosthuizen.
