Hunter Mahan announced Monday that he will skip the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, a day after the birth of his first child.

Mahan withdrew after 36 holes of last week's RBC Canadian Open when his wife, Kandi, went into early labor with their daughter. Zoe was born at 3:26 a.m. Sunday. Mahan was leading the tournament at the time of his withdrawal, too.

"I have elected to officially withdraw myself from the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational so that I can take the opportunity to spend this precious first week at home with Zoe," Mahan said in a statement. "I intend to resume my playing schedule at the 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill. I would like to thank the PGA Tour for supporting my decision not to play this week."

The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational begins Thursday at Firestone Country Club's South course in Akron, Ohio.
