USC teammates Annie Park and Doris Chen ran away with medalist honors in Round 2 of stroke-play qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links. Both players returned a second-round 4-under 68 at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., to reach 8-under 136 for 36 holes.
Park, the NCAA individual champion, again made just one bogey in her round. She had four birdies on the back nine to finish in 4-under 32. Chen’s card was more colorful, with eight birdies, two bogeys and a double.
The next closest player is Stanford signee Casey Danielson, an 18-year-old from Osceola, Wis. Danielson shot a second-round 72 to finish at 3-under 141.
Another USC player, Kyung Kim, shot 2-under 70 on Tuesday to climb to a share of fourth on the stroke-play leaderboard. Kim is the defending champion this week. She is tied with 14-year-old Mariel Galdiano and Julie Yang, a sophomore at Oklahoma State.
Anne-Catherine Tanguay had the best finish among the three Oklahoma players in the field this week. Jimmie Austin is the Sooners’ home golf course. Tanguay finished at even-par 144 and with a share of seventh.
Among the notables who did not advance to match player is Emily Tubert, the 2010 WAPL champion, UCLA senior Ani Gulugian, recent Tulsa graduate Kristina Merkle and 2011 WAPL runner-up Marissa Dodd.
