After winning for a third time on the Challenge Tour this year, Brooks Koepka was medalist at the International Final Qualifying for the Open Championship at Sunningdale Golf Club on Monday.
Koepka and eight others – Oliver Fisher, Alvaro Quiros, Gregory Bourdy, Richard McEvoy, Gareth Maybin, Niclas Fasth, Scott Jamieson, and Estanislao Goya – will make the trip to Muirfield on July 18-21 for the championship.
Koepka shot rounds of 69-65—134 (5 under) to advance to his first Open. Fisher was at 4 under, and in a four-way tie at 3 under were Quiros, Bourdy, McEvoy and Maybin. Jamieson and Fasth finished at 2 under.
Goya advanced to the Open by winning a four-for-one playoff (1 under) against David Drysdale, Ross Fisher and Alejandro Canizares.
Koepka, a former All-American at Florida State, won his second Challenge Tour title in three weeks at the Scottish Hydro Challenge in Scotland on June 23. He became the first American to win three times in any single Challenge Tour season, and with that he earns an automatic spot on the European Tour for the remainder of the 2013 season.
