Castro fires 69, tied for lead at Congressional

BETHESDA, Md. – Roberto Castro didn't let history repeat itself Friday at the AT&T National.
Castro, who let first-round leads slip away at the Humana Challenge and the Players Championship this season, ended that trend with a 2-under 69 at Congressional. He completed his morning round tied with Jordan Spieth for the lead at 7 under.
“It feels good to play two rounds under par,” Castro said. “It’s a very hard golf course. . . . I feel good about two rounds in the 60s.”
For the second straight day, Castro made just one bogey. He led the field in strokes gained-putting after a 23-putt first round. He took 27 putts Friday, making three birdies, too.
“I thought the greens were a little bit quicker. . . . otherwise, the course was very similar (to Thursday),” Castro said.
Castro shot 63 in the first round at Humana only to follow with 67-69-72 and finish T-37. At TPC Sawgrass, he shot 9-under 63 before closing with 78-71-71 to finish T-19.
“I learned a lot there (at the Players) and realized that one round doesn’t mean anything, just got to keep going,” Castro said. “And I was able to do that today.”
