EverBank new sponsor for Tour stop at Innisbrook
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Sewing up the only loose end to its schedule, the PGA Tour announced that it has struck a deal with EverBank to move in as presenting sponsor of the Tampa Bay Championship.
Coming into the 2013 season, the March 14-17 tournament at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla., was the only stop along the way that did not have a sponsor, either presenting or title. That picture changes now with the recruitment of EverBank, a diversified financial-services company that is based in Jacksonville, Fla., and has business through the Tampa area.
"We are extremely pleased that EverBank has agreed to become presenting sponsor of the 2013 Tampa Bay Championship and thank the company for its commitment,” said Andy Pazder, the PGA Tour's chief of operations. "With only a couple of weeks before the tournament, we are focusing all of our time and energy on helping EverBank to become fully integrated, including development of on-site signage and the broadcast presentation and implementing a full-scale customer-engagement program.”
Since 2010, EverBank has held the naming rights to EverBank Field, home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.
A Tour spokesman said negotiations have been ongoing for months and expressed hope that they lead to a full title sponsorship, much like what had happened at Torrey Pines. There, Farmers Insurance came in as presenting sponsor, and that turned into full title sponsorship.
The tournament at Innisbrook debuted in 2000 and for three years was called the Tampa Bay Classic. It was sponsored by Chrysler for four years starting in 2003, then by PODS starting in 2007. Transitions title-sponsored the tournament from 2009 through 2012.
