Sam I am

USC's Sam Smith has now made three eagle-2s in 36 holes and holds a commanding six-shot lead in the individual race.

Smith followed his course- and school-record 62 with a second-round 64. Smith is six shots ahead of Cal's Michael Weaver, the 2012 U.S. Amateur runner-up.

Smith made just six pars Friday. He had two eagles, seven birdies and three bogeys. He made eagles on the par-4 second and 14th holes. Smith also eagled the par-4 15th hole in the first round. All three eagles came after he drove the green. His eagle putts came from 2, 3 and 15 feet.

He went birdie-eagle on Nos. 14 and 15 in the second round, then bogeyed the par-3 16th before closing with birdies on the final two holes.

Palouse Ridge has five par 5s. He has made birdies on nine of the 10 par 5s this week.
