Guan, 14, accepts St. Jude Classic exemption
Thursday, May 23, 2013
A week after withdrawing from a U.S. Open sectional qualifier, 14-year-old Tianlang Guan has received a sponsor exemption to play in the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
This is his fourth sponsor exemption, adding the Memorial on Monday, while already having played the Zurich Classic and HP Byron Nelson Championship. Guan also qualified for the Masters, where he was the youngest player in history to make the cut.
“Guan’s invitation was a no-brainer,” said Phil Cannon, tournament director at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. “He certainly has made a big splash in the sports world. And we are excited our fans will get to witness history. It’s remarkable that he did not have a three-putt green in 72 holes at Augusta.”
The FedEx St. Jude Classic is June 6-9 at TPC Southwind, the week before the U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
