Player Diary: Ashlan Ramsey (Part 8)

The past few weeks have been pretty hectic for me, but it has been just a taste of what is yet to come this summer. For the past few weeks I have been practicing for my U.S. Open qualifier and finishing up my senior year of high school at John Milledge Academy.
My sister, Taylor has been home from Clemson for a couple of weeks and we have been working hard on our games together. I have also had the opportunity to play with Dori Carter who plays on the LPGA tour. Dori and I have become friends over the past few months as we practice at the same course. She was getting ready for the same qualifier so it was so helpful to have some competition prior to the qualifier so that I was able to get into tournament mode.
I played the qualifier last Monday at Druid Hills in Atlanta with Taylor caddying for me as she has done before in many tournaments. The qualifier was 36 holes in one day which is a lot of golf, but having Taylor caddy for me made it much easier. I played with Krisitie McPherson, who I have grown up admiring so that was a very cool experience for me. I did not play my best, but I did feel like I have made some improvements to my game in the past few weeks. My swing changes are going in the right direction and I was confident in the way I hit the ball in the qualifier, but I did not putt the way I wanted to at all. I ended up outside the top 8 by four shots and I felt like I could have easily made up those few shots if I putted how I normally putt. Kristie had some very good words of encouragement and advice after our round which I really took to heart. Even though I was disappointed I didnʼt make it, I took away things to work on for my next event which is the AJGA Thunderbird International in Arizona.
I had a hectic week after the qualifier, with graduation practice and senior activities with the rest of my graduating class. We had graduation Friday night and everything went well! I have had a crazy, exhausting, exciting, busy, and all around great senior year. I may have missed the most school days of any student this year but I made the days I was there count. Its so crazy to think I am one step closer to being a Freshman in college. Time flies when your playing golf I guess!
