Castillo, Gillman are stroke-play medalists at Polo

Derek Castillo and Kristen Gillman took stroke-play-medalist honors Tuesday at the AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

The pair earn the top seeds for match play in the boys and girls division, respectively.

Castillo fired a 3-under 68 to finish the two rounds of stroke play at 3 under. Scottie Scheffler finished runner-up at even par while Ben Griffin was solo third at 1 over.

Gillman's 3-over 75 gave her a 1-over 145 total, one shot better than Michaela Owen.

Other notables advancing to Wednesday's first round of match play include Davis Riley (3 over), Sam Burns (4 over), Andy Zhang (6 over), Cameron Champ (6 over) and Brad Dalke (6 over). Austin Connelly earned the final match-play spot at 8 over. On the girls side, Sierra Brooks (3 over), Bethany Wu (5 over), Lakareber Abe (6 over), Nicole Morales (7 over) and Andrea Lee (7 over) all advanced.

Notables who failed to make match play include George Cunningham, Doug Ghim and Zach Bauchou on the boys side, and Cheyenne Knight, Abbey Carlson, Sam Wagner, Megan Khang and Nelly Korda on the girls side.
