Player diary: Nicole Morales (Part 2)

Not much has gone on since the last time I wrote from the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy. I’ve been at home catching up on schoolwork and getting completely adjusted to my new life in Florida.
I love living in Orlando! The weather right now is absolutely perfect. The humidity is down and the love-bugs are gone – great conditions for training. I get out of school at noon every day and I’m at the Mike Bender Golf Academy practicing by 1 p.m.. My coach Cheryl Anderson and I just came up with a practice plan for me, detailing how much time I should spend practicing each aspect of my game (wedge game, putting, chipping, bunker game and full swing) and what drills I should be focusing on. I love my practice schedule and can already see the improvements in my game.
Mondays are usually my days off. I’m a firm believer in having a balanced life, and I use Mondays as a chance to focus on my schoolwork. I work out twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m. with Scott Shepard, the personal trainer at the Bender Academy. The rest of the week I will be practicing my technique from 1-4 p.m. at the Academy. I joined Heathrow Golf Club, which is five minutes away, and I try to go out to play as much as possible in the afternoons.
Right now is crunch time. The Ping Invitational at Karsten Creek Golf Club is coming up soon- the first round is on October 12th and I’m really looking forward to it. This will be my first and only time in the event (because next year I will be a freshman at the University of Alabama) so I’m really looking forward to competing and playing my best. I am traveling with my best friend (and teammate on the Wyndham Cup East team!) Abbey Carlson. so I know we will have a great time. The AJGA has provided us with a host family, and I can’t wait to finally meet them. We fly out the Thursday afternoon before the tournament and I know the two of us are going to have a lot of fun.
That’s all for now, so wish me luck in Karsten Creek next week! Until next time… Roll Tide!
