Thursday, October 31, 2013
Through 16 holes Thursday at the WGC-HSBC Champions, Phil Mickelson was 6 under and just one shot off the lead.
But Mickelson went 5 over in his final two holes to finish with a 1-under 71.
He found the water twice at the par-5 eighth hole and ended up with a quadruple bogey. He then bogeyed the par-4 ninth to finish his first round.
He'll now enter the second round in Shanghai, China, six shots off of Rory McIlroy's lead.
