Georgia Tech men cruise to Carpet Capital title
Led by co-medalist Ollie Schniederjans, Georgia Tech placed four golfers among the top 12 and cruised to a season-opening victory Sunday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
The Yellow Jackets, the No. 4 team in Golfweek's preseason rankings, shot rounds of 280-289-281 to finish at 14-under 850 at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga., six shots ahead of rival Georgia. LSU finished third at even-par 864, and Clemson was another shot back in fourth.
Schniederjans shot 67-67-73 and tied for medalist honors with North Carolina's Bailey Patrick (68-69-70) at 9-under 207, four shots ahead of LSU's Stewart Jolly. Schniederjans got support from teammates Richy Werenski (T-5), Seth Reeves (11th) and Anders Albertson (T-12). Werenski and Reeves led Georgia Tech with 5-under 67s Sunday, tying with LSU's Smylie Kaufman for the day's low round.
