Welcome to Golfweek’s Women’s Midweek Report. We wanted to use this hump day to update you on all the latest women’s college news and give you a quick glance at what to look ahead to this weekend:

THE BIG 5

Stories you need to know now...

TEAMS

1. Florida: The Gators won their season opener Sept. 10 for the second consecutive year, and this time by rallying in the final round to hold off an eager young Clemson squad. Florida improved by six shots from Round 2 to Round 3, and finished at 5-under 859. Last year’s Cougar Classic title sparked a strong fall campaign for the Gators – they finished second the next week and tied for first with Alabama to close the first half of the season.

2. Clemson: Not a shabby debut for the Tigers. The newly formed team brought four true freshman and one redshirt freshman to Charleston, S.C., for the Cougar Classic and nipped at Florida’s heels. Clemson finished one shot behind Florida, and claimed three players in the top 20 individually.

3. California: The Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic was the first victory for the Golden Bears since the Washington State Cougar Cup a year ago. Cal led by four shots entering the final round on Sept. 10 and spent that day pulling away from the 17-team field with a tournament-low 2-under 286. The Golden Bears finished 54 holes with a 9-over 873.

4. Campbell: The Camels finished out of the sight at the Golfweek Program Challenge on Sept. 10 for the second consecutive year, following last year’s 40-shot victory with a 17-shot one. Campbell player Tahnia Ravnjak won the individual title, thanks in large part to a final-round 66 at Caledonia Golf Club in Pawley’s Island, S.C.

5. William and Mary: The Tribe’s victory at the Bucknell Invitational on Sept. 8 was the first since the 2009-10 season, when the team won two events (including Bucknell’s tournament). William and Mary won the 16-team event by a 10-stroke margin. Equally exciting: Sophomore Tina Chang aced the 16th hole in Round 1, just the third in school history.

PLAYERS

1. Alice Kim, Gonzaga: The junior closed the Hobble Creek Invitational on Sept. 10 with a school-record 5-under 66. It helped Gonzaga to second place as a team and Kim to T-7 individually.

2. Anna Young, Florida: The junior shined at the Cougar Classic, climbing from T-16 entering the final round to first with a 5-under 67. It was her first collegiate victory. Young could be a huge help for the Gators if she continues this form. In 26 rounds last year, Young averaged 77.2, and her best score was 75.

3. Ashlan Ramsey, Clemson: Welcome to college, kid. Ramsey followed a stellar summer with a runner-up finish in her first college outing. Ramsey finished 54 holes at the Cougar Classic with a 4-under 212. She tied with teammate Sloan Shanahan and North Carolina State’s Brittany Marchand.

4. Michelle Piyapattra, Columbia: Piyapattra is a player to watch this year. The Columbia player won a sudden-death playoff at the Bucknell Invitational to earn her fifth career victory. She finished regulation at 12-over 222.

5. Dana Finkelstein, UNLV: The junior shot 4-under 212 at the Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic and won her first career victory. She was once shot ahead of Cal’s Nicola Roessler. Finkelstein’s victory is the first for a Rebel individual since the 2011 Mountain West Championship.
