By The Numbers: George Washington's Lucas Farmer, 1
Tuesday, September 17, 2013
One was the number for George Washington freshman Lucas Farmer during the first round of the Adams Cup of Newport on Sept. 16.
On just the fifth hole of his college career, Farmer made a hole-in-one on the par-3 fourth hole at Newport National Golf Club. He hit 7-iron from 182 yards to record the ace.
"I didn't know it went in until we got up to the green and checked the hole," Farmer said. "I was a little amped heading to the next hole, but you don't want to be too excited. I just wanted to stay in the process, just stay conservative and attack when I can."
Farmer finished the day with a two-round total of 1-under 143. He's tied for seventh place individually. George Washington is 13th as a team. Three-time defending champion Central Florida leads by 15 shots.
"Lucas played great golf today; he stuck to our game plan and was really thinking about where to put himself so he had an opportunity to attack," first-year head coach Chuck Scheinost said.
