This week's Shell Houston Open features some of the game's elite, including Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Keegan Bradley.

It could even have Phil Mickelson, depending on how his pulled muscle has healed.

And our panel of experts have taken notice of the stars this week, throwing plenty of love at McIlroy, with a little sprinkled in the direction of Johnson, Spieth and Bradley.

Take a look at this week's expert picks:

• • •

Jeff Rude, senior writer

Favorite: Rory McIlroy.

Don't forget about: Henrik Stenson.

Keep an eye on: Jordan Spieth.

Sleeper: Jason Kokrak.

Comments: McIlroy a top-10 regular again, though needs to close better. … Stenson showed improved form at Arnold Palmer Invitational and was second in Houston last year. … Texan Spieth a top-10 machine; finished four back at Valero Texas Open after opening 75. … Bomber Kokrak contended at last two events on Florida swing.

• • •

Jim McCabe, senior writer

Favorite: Rory McIlroy

Don’t forget about: Bill Haas

Keep an eye on: Geoff Ogilvy

Sleeper: Roberto Castro

Comments: Well-rested, McIlroy has the game to fit Redstone and appears rejuvenated. Haas has been consistently solid all year (he hasn’t missed a cut and has five top 20s in 10 stroke-play starts), Ogilvy looked like he figured something out at the Valero, and if you’re looking to continue this trend of surprise winners, Castro’s not a bad place to start.

• • •

Adam Schupak, senior writer

Winner: Keegan Bradley

Don't forget about: Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson

Keep an eye on: J.B. Holmes, Dustin Johnson

Sleepers: Cameron Tringale, Jason Gore

Comments: The Shell Houston Open is a bomber's paradise. Bradley (T-4, T-10 the last two years in Houston) has been knocking on the door lately and this is the week he closes the deal. McIlroy has been a perennial contender this season and Stenson's terrific '13 season was kick-started with a runner-up finish here last season. Holmes is a past champ who cracked the top-10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Johnson has been red-hot all season and finished T-4 here in '13. Tringale has made nine cuts in a row. Like Matt Every a few weeks ago, he's overdue to breakthrough with a win. Gore's another bomber and he's played consistently well splitting time between the Tour and Web.com.

Nick Masuda, digital director

Winner: Rory McIlroy

Don't forget about: Dustin Johnson

Keep an eye on: J.B. Holmes

Sleepers: Ryan Palmer

Comments: Golf needs some big-name buzz prior to Augusta next week, and I believe McIlroy will provide it with a victory this week. The kid has looked much better this season, although he does need to close a bit better . . . Dustin Johnson would provide some spark prior to the Masters as well and he's been nails this season, not to mention a T-4 finish at this event in 2013 . . . J.B. Holmes is a gut pick, although I'm not going out on a limb considering he's a past winner of the event. Would love to see him at Augusta . . . Ryan Palmer doesn't seem like a logical pick considering his 10-over 82 to finish the Valero Texas Open. But he was a top-3 finish away from an automatic spot in the Masters, and I have to believe that's going to eat at his gut since he was inside the top 10 heading into Sunday's action.
