Winged Foot GC (West), Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Finish: T-29

Buzz: Playing in his first PGA Championship, Woods was T-5 through 54 holes before carding a final-round, 5-over 75 to finish 17 shots behind winner Davis Love III.

Sahalee CC, Sammamish, Wash.

Finish: T-10

Buzz: Woods jumped out to the first-round lead after a 4-under 66, but followed with 72-70-71 to finish eight shots back of winner Vijay Singh.

1999

Medinah (Ill.) CC (No. 3)

Finish: Won

Buzz: Woods won his first PGA and second overall major title as he edged runner-up Sergio Garcia by a single shot. Garcia held the first-round lead, but began the final round two shots back of Woods and Mike Weir. Woods closed with an even-par 72 while Garcia shot 71.

2000

Valhalla GC, Louisville, Ky.

Finish: Won

Buzz: Woods won his second straight PGA title by defeating Bob May in a three-hole playoff. It marked the first time since 1937 that a PGA Championship was successfully defended. Woods and May finished 72 holes at 18 under, which broke a record at the time.

Atlanta Athletic Club (Highlands), Johns Creek, Ga.

Finish: T-29

Buzz: Never in contention, Woods finished 14 shots back of winner David Toms at 1-under 279.

Hazeltine National GC, Chaska, Minn.

Finish: second

Buzz: Woods’ final-round 5-under 67 wasn’t enough as he finished a shot back of winner Rich Beem. Woods birdied his last four holes of the tournament, but Beem held on despite a finishing bogey.

Oak Hill CC (East), Rochester, N.Y.

Finish: T-39

Buzz: Woods finished 16 shots back of Shaun Micheel’s winning total of 4-under 276, shooting even par or better just once in 72 holes en route to a 12-over 292 total.

Whistling Straits (Straits), Kohler, Wis.

Finish: T-24

Buzz: An opening round of 3-over 75 got Woods off to a bad start, and despite back-to-back 69s in the second and third rounds, he closed with 73 to finish six shots back of winner Vijay Singh, who prevailed in a playoff over Chris DiMarco and Justin Leonard.

Finish: T-4

Buzz: For the second straight year, Woods opened with a 75, but he was able to notch a top-5 finish with rounds of 69-66-68, finishing two shots behind winner Phil Mickelson.

Medinah (Ill.) CC (No. 3)

Finish: Won

Buzz: Woods’ third career PGA victory was also his second at Medinah and 12th overall major triumph. Woods grabbed the third-round lead with a third-round, 7-under 65 and then moved to 12-0 in majors when leading or holding a share of the lead after 54 holes, finishing five shots ahead of runner-up Shaun Micheel.

Southern Hills CC, Tulsa, Okla.

Finish: Won

Buzz: On the strength of a second-round 63, which at the time tied the record for lowest single-round score in a major, Woods won his fourth PGA title. He finished at 8-under 272, two shots ahead of runner-up Woody Austin.

Hazeltine National GC, Chaska, Minn.

Finish: second

Buzz: Woods held the 18-, 36- and 54-hole leads before Y.E. Yang overtook him in the final round, shooting 2-under 70 while Woods carded a 75, to win by three shots. It marked the first time Woods lost a major when leading after 54 holes.

Whistling Straits (Straits), Kohler, Wis.

Finish: T-28

Buzz: Finishing at 2-under 286, Woods was never in contention as Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson each shot 11-under 277 to get into a playoff, which Kaymer won.

Finish: missed cut

Buzz: This marks Woods’ first and, so far, only cut at the PGA Championship, as he shot 77-73.

Buzz: Woods weathered strong winds to grab a share of the 36-hole lead, but finished 74-72 to end up 11 shots back of winner Rory McIlroy.
