Vanderbilt notched its first victory since 2007, winning the Central District Invitational Tuesday at Lakewood Ranch (Fla.) Golf and Country Club.
The 15th-ranked Commodores, who hadn't won since the 2007 Vanderbilt Triangular, trailed Central Florida by two shots entering the final round, but a 7-under 281 pushed them to 20-under 844 and clinched a one-shot victory over the 18th-ranked Knights.
Vanderbilt freshman Simin Feng recorded her first collegiate title, winning a scorecard tiebreaker over Michigan State's Allyssa Ferrell after both players finished at 9-under 207. She becomes the first Commodores player to win medalist honors since Marina Alex won the 2010 SEC Championship.
Central Florida teammates Fanny Cnops and Kristine Odalyar tied for third at 8 under. Michigan State was third as a team at 15 under.
