Selection process for U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team

The 2014 Junior PGA Championship and U.S. Junior Amateur will have a little more meaning with the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup on the horizon.
The PGA of America announced on Wednesday a selection process for the American team, which will face off with Europe Sept. 22-23 in Perthshire, Scotland at Blairgowrie Golf Club.
The team, which will consist of six boys and six girls, will be selected through the following process:
• The first- and second-place finishers from the Junior PGA Championship for both boys and girls will earn selections.
• The 2014 U.S. Junior Amateur Champion and the 2014 U.S. Girls’ Junior Champion will earn selections.
• The leading boy and girl in the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup final point standings will earn selections. Those nominees will be announced on Aug. 1.
• The final four spots will be captains picks. The American captain is PGA Past President Brian Whitcomb. Those selections will be announced on Aug. 12.
The U.S. team will be playing for its fourth-straight win this year. The tournament will be played in a format of foursomes, mixed four-ball and singles competition.
