John Augenstein, ranked sixth in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings for the Class of 2016, has committed to Vanderbilt.
Augenstein, who attends Owensboro (Ky.) Catholic High School, chose the Commodores over two-time defending national champion Alabama.
"I chose Vandy because I love the idea of having a chance to build something," Augenstein said. "I feel like Vandy is on its way to being one of the top programs in the NCAA. Coach (Scott) Limbaugh and Coach (Dusty) Smith are the best in the business, and I feel confident that they will give me the best opportunity of succeeding in my golf career.
"The facilities at Vandy are top-notch and what I feel are the best in the country. The academics also really attracted me. Vandy is a outstanding school, and it would mean a lot to earn a degree from there."
Augenstein also made visits to Kentucky and Georgia Tech, and he considered Georgia, Florida State, Texas A&M and Ole Miss among other schools.
He will compete next week at the 2014 U.S. Junior Amateur in The Woodlands, Texas. He was a semifinalist a year ago at the event. He also recently competed in the AJGA Wyndham Cup, tied for 17th at the Western Junior, advanced to U.S. Open sectional qualifying and won the AJGA Wells Fargo Junior Classic in April.
