4 share 1st-round lead in Southwestern Amateur

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Four players, including two from Canada, sit tied for the lead after Wednesday's first round of the 99th annual Southwestern Amateur.

At Desert Mountain, David Snyder, Zachary Wright and Canadians Tony Gil and Matt Williams shot 4-under 66s to share the lead.

The quartet leads another group of players tied for fifth place. Among those at 3 under is senior amateur Brady Exber.

Six more players are tied for eighth place at 2 under, while six more sit at 1 under.

Other players of note after Round 1 include: Palmer Cup team member Anthony Maccaglia (3 under, T-5), Georgia Tech's Christopher Petefish (E, T-20), Alabama's Tom Lovelady (2 over, T-34) and Cal's Andrew Morgan (5 over, T-74).
