Sandhills captures first NJCAA D-III men's title

There’s another trophy coming to Pinehurst, N.C., along with ones for the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open winners to be handed out over the next two weeks.

Sandhills Community College, of Pinehurst, captured its first national title June 6 at the NJCAA Division III Men’s Championship. Sandhills shot 1,197 for a 15-shot victory over Cincinnati State Tech Community College at Chautauqua (N.Y.) Golf Club.

Sandhills’ Nick Thompson shot 3-under 285 to claim medalist honors, two shots better than Alec Meyer (College of Du Page in Glen Ellyn, Ill.). Thompson’s teammate Ediz Kemaloglu was third at even-par 288. readers: We value your input and welcome your comments, but please be respectful in this forum.
