Defending champion Barry University leads 20 teams to the NCAA Division II Men’s Championship in two weeks.
Barry, of Miami Shores, Fla., won the South/Southeast Regional to advance to the finals May 19-23 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.
Joining Barry as regional champions are Indiana-Pa. (Atlantic/East), Malone (Central/Midwest) and St. Edward’s (South Central/West).
At-large team qualifiers are St. Thomas Aquinas, Charleston-W.Va., Central Missouri, Saginaw Valley State, Central Oklahoma, Nova Southeastern, South Carolina-Aiken, Armstrong Atlantic, Lynn, Delta State, North Alabama, Cal State-Chico, Hawaii Hilo, Cal State-Monterey Bay, Western New Mexico and Simon Fraser.
Tim Crouch, a senior from Florida Southern who won last year’s individual title, won the South/Southeast Regional to lead eight individual qualifiers. Joining Crouch are Ryan Gendron (St. Leo), Derek Oland (Midwestern State), Colin Prater (Colorado Mesa), Louis Kelly (Adelphi), Kurt Brey (Dowling), Michael Colgate (Nebraska-Kearney) and Marcos Sevilla (Southeastern Oklahoma State).
This is the fourth year of stroke-play (54 holes) to determine the individual champion and medal/match-play (top eight teams) to crown the team champion.
Last year, Barry defeated Lynn in a tie-breaker for the team title. All three winners in match-play format – Barry, Nova Southeastern (2012) and Cal State-Monterey Bay (2011) – have qualified for the finals this year.
