Charlotte stays perfect with win at Pacific

Second-ranked Charlotte made a final-round comeback Wednesday at the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational to keep its undefeated record intact.

The 49ers shot a final-round 271 at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif., to finish at 40-under 824 and win by two shots over No. 80 Kansas State (279). Charlotte started the final round six shots behind the Wildcats. Charlotte is now 58-0-0 in stroke-play events.

Charlotte’s Stefan Wiedergruen, the Ping/Golfweek Preview champion, shot a final-round 66 to finish at 17-under 199, three shots ahead of Fresno State’s Grant Doverspike (66), last year’s WAC champion. Wiedergruen is No. 23 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.

No. 63 Marquette (275) finished third at 28 under par.
