GOLFWEEK STAFF

Dustin Johnson matched the tournament and course record Friday with an 8-under-par 62 to take a six-shot lead at the Monroe Invitational.

Johnson, an All-American at Coastal Carolina, started with eagle on the first hole by holing an 8-iron from the rough and made the turn in 4 under. He then made birdies on Nos. 10, 12, 14 and 15 to end at 12-under 198, six ahead of Jarred Texter.

The 62 was Johnson’s career low and tied the tournament record posted by D.J. Trahan in 2002.

Clemson’s David May made an ace on the 213-yard par-3 6th hole. He shot 74 and is tied for 13th.
