Chad Collins saw an opportunity to earn his first Nationwide Tour victory May 22, and didn’t waste time.
Collins, a third-round co-leader, birdied the first four holes in the final round of the Henrico County Open and never looked back. Collins shot 5-under 67 to finish at 21-under 267, two shots better than Tom Scherrer.
“Getting off to a fast start couldn’t have worked out any better,” said Collins, a Methodist College grad who won three NCAA Division III individual titles (1998, ’99, 2001). “Making birdies on the first four holes was a nice bonus and gave me a cushion going into the tough holes. I didn’t have any dreams that it would start like that, but you always hope that it does.”
