With growing interest in the Nationwide Tour, the PGA Tour is featuring more content about its developmental circuit on a weekly basis at pgatour.com.
Traffic for Nationwide Tour content on the Web site has increased significantly: From Jan. 1 to May 11, the Nationwide Tour home page recorded 3.9 million page views, up 57 percent compared with 2.5 million for the same period in 2008.
The Nationwide Tour Leaderboard also has recorded 15.7 million page views year-to-date, according to Omniture.
Among the new content will be “Nationwide Tour Weekly,” a show that features interviews with winners, competition recaps and tournament previews. Live elements and streaming of interviews also will be featured at select events. For example, pgatour.com’s [email protected] franchise will be expanded to include several Nationwide Tour events.
“Increasing our focus on the Nationwide Tour is a natural progression for pgatour.com given fans’ growing interest in our existing tour coverage,” said Lee Bushkell, pgatour.com’s vice president and general manager. “The Nationwide Tour’s track record of producing top-flight PGA Tour talent is driving interest among pgatour.com users. By providing deeper coverage, we believe we are responding to their wishes for more consumption options.”
The use of video is becoming an integral component of pgatour.com’s coverage: This year, pgatour.com already has recorded 85.3 million video streams.
