Top-seeded Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Munoz have advanced to the semifinals of the Ladies’ British Amateur Championship, where they will be joined by England’s Laura Collin and Germany’s Caroline Masson.
Ciganda, the No. 1 seed overall, defeated No. 8 seed Hannah Barwood 3 and 2, while second-seeded Munoz took down Rhian Wyn Thomas (No. 26), winning 2 and 1 at Royal St. David’s Golf Club.
Collin, the No. 12 seed, won in convincing fashion while celebrating her 22nd birthday. She lost only one hole in a 5 and 3 victory. Masson was able to take Sweeden’s Nathalie Mansson out of the match early, taking five of the match’s first six holes, eventually leading to a 3 and 2 win.
Ciganda and Munoz, both from Spain, are former Arizona State teammates who helped lead the Sun Devils to a Division I NCAA Championship this past year. Ciganda is a rising sophomore at ASU, while Munoz just finished her senior season.
Ciganda will take on Collin and Munoz will square off against Mansson in Saturday’s semifinals.
