FARMINGDALE, NY – I watched the grounds crew prep the 16th and 17th greens this afternoon during a lull in the action. One of the staff zipped back and forth on the green in what looked like golf’s version of a Zamboni only smaller and faster to make the green extra slick.
It soon became the topic of conversation.
“How do you get that job?” wondered Liz, the 15th tee marshal. “Do you go to school for that?”
“Can’t be a drinker,” another bystander said. “I’m getting vertigo just watching it.”
