Kristina Wong fired her second consecutive 1-over 73 on Tuesday to take medalist honors at 36 holes at the Women’s Western Amateur in Lima, Ohio.
Wong, of Vestal, N.Y., finished three shots ahead of Abby Bools, whose second-round 74 left her at 5-over 149. As the tournament heads into match play Wednesday, Wong will be seeded No. 1 in the Championship Flight, while Bools will be No. 2.
Louise Manalo, of the Philippines, finished strong with an even-par 72, the low round of qualifying. Manalo opened the tournament with an 83 (T-74) on Monday, but the low second round moved her into a tie for 23rd heading into match play.
Cassie Boles, of Lakeland, Fla., and Sydney Wilson, of Lawrence, Kan., were the winners of an 8-for-2 playoff and will take the final two spots in the Championship Flight. Boles, Wilson and the six other members of the playoff finished the qualifying round at 162.
