Rounds played increases 0.9% in May

The number of rounds played nationwide increased 0.9 percent in May and contributed to a 1.6 percent gain year-to-date.

At public-access courses, rounds played grew 1.3 percent and 1.9 percent, respectively, according to the National Golf Rounds Played Report. The report is a collaborative effort of research firm Golf Datatech LLC, the PGA of America, the National Golf Course Owners Association and the National Golf Foundation.

At private courses, however, rounds played declined 0.7 percent in May. The year-to-date tally still is up 0.6 percent.
