Who says people won’t watch re-runs?
CBS Sports is betting there will be interest in a classic from Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf: A 1963 stroke-play duel between Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead, who were then 23 and 50, respectively, at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The network plans to televise the match – which hasn’t been rebroadcasted in any manner since 1963 – on July 12 at 2 p.m. as a lead into CBS’ final-round coverage of the John Deere Classic.
The program was produced by PGA Tour Productions and digitally re-mastered to high definition. The one-hour special includes an interview with Nicklaus, swing tips from Nicklaus and Snead, short features about the golf course, and segments with writers, television producers and fans who were in attendance.
