Fantasy Aces: John Deere Classic

Jeff Babineau

Best Bet: Kenny Perry

Why? Because to Kenny, this one is every bit as big as the British Open.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Jonathan Byrd

Won at the Deere two years ago, quietly having a solid season, and knows he has the talent to start winning more than he has. Add all of that together, and he could be your guy come Sunday.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Jim Furyk (T-7)

Last Week’s Ace: Nick O’Hern (T-45)

Standing: 1st

Jim McCabe

Best Bet: Kevin Sutherland

With most marquee names taking the week off to rest for the British Open, there aren’t many top 50 candidates to choose from. Kenny Perry, David Toms, Steve Stricker are the obvious ones, but here’s a vote for the unheralded, but consistent guy from Sacramento. Sutherland has three top 10s at TPC Deere Run and has shot in the 60s in 18 of his last 24 rounds there.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Jason Dufner

He’s been popping on and off the leaderboard at various points all season, so why not take a chance on this being the week?

Last Week’s Best Bet: Hunter Mahan (2)

Last Week’s Ace: Bubba Watson (WD)

Standing: 2nd

Sean Martin

Best Bet: Kenny Perry

Hard to pick against Kenny Perry this week. He’s the cream of the crop – having finished first and T-11 in the past two John Deeres – as most of the Tour’s other big names are taking the week off before heading to the British Open. Also be on the lookout for Lucas Glover, who followed his U.S. Open victory with a T-11 at Travelers and T-5 at Congressional.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Bryce Molder

Bryce Molder is 30 now, and looks like he may be on the verge of finally getting that first PGA Tour victory. Molder has finished in the top 25 in his past four starts, including a T-2 at St. Jude and fourth-place finish at the AT&T National. Also be on the lookout for Ryan Moore, Matt Bettencourt and Cameron Beckman.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Tiger Woods (Won)

Last Week’s Ace: Bubba Watson (WD)

Standing: 3rd

Eric Soderstrom

Best Bet: Lucas Glover

This was a coin flip for me this week between Glover and Kenny Perry, both coming off recent victories and great play overall. Glover has shown no signs of a U.S. Open hangover, especially with his T-5 last week at AT&T, and should cash another big check this week against a much weaker field.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Danny Lee

Bargain shopping right here. After his T-7 last week at AT&T, Lee is a steal this week at No. 233 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Hunter Mahan (2)

Last Week’s Ace: Jason Day (MC)

Standing: 4th

Lance Ringler

Best Bet: Kenny Perry

He might be a little like Tiger Woods. Perry has a goal to win 20 PGA Tour events and these are the events he needs to win to accomplish that goal. He won the John Deere Classic last year a prior to that posted two top 25s in this tournament.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Bryce Molder

Molder might be shaping up to be the player many thought he might after being a four time first-team All-American at Georgia Tech. Molder has placed in the top 25 in his last four starts including two top 5s.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Tiger Woods (Won)

Last Week’s Ace: Bubba Watson (WD)

Standing: 5th

Jeff Rude

Best Bet: Kenny Perry

He won there last year. He won a couple of weeks ago. The perfect combo.

Ace Up My Sleeve: David Duval

Let’s just say I have a hunch that his T-2 at the U.S. Open is more springboard than fool’s gold.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Tiger Woods (Won)

Last Week’s Ace: Michael Allen (T-11)

Standing: 6th

Alex Miceli

Best Bet: Kenny Perry

Ace Up My Sleeve: Mike Van Sickle

Last Week’s Best Bet: Anthony Kim (3)

Last Week’s Ace: Peter Lonard (T-54)

Standing: 7th
