Joey Cerulle has been named the head women’s golf coach at Long Beach State.
Cerulle, who replaces Sue Ewart after her 13 years at the helm of the progarm, was formerly the assitant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at California Baptist in Riverside, Calif. While at California Baptist, both the men’s and women’s teams were ranked among the top 25 in the NAIA. The men’s team won the CalPAC Conference Championship and finished third at the national tournament last season.
Prior to his time at California Baptist, Cerulle was the inaugural coach for both the women’s and men’s golf teams at his alma mater, Concordia University.
“The opportunity to come back home and to coach at Long Beach State is just tremendous,” Cerulle said. “I’ve known Sue forever as she’s helped me become a better coach and she’s been a mentor of mine as well. You can’t ask for a better Division I program than the one that has been established here at Long Beach State. I look forward to defending the Big West title.”
Cerulle has also coached golf at the high school level, and worked with the Long Beach Junior Golf Association for five years.
