TULSA, Okla. – Bronson Burgoon is used to being around the cut line at the U.S. Amateur. This time, it looks like he’ll be on the right side of the line after shooting consecutive 73s.
In three prior U.S. Amateur starts, Burgoon – still in the running for one of the last two available spots on the U.S. Walker Cup team – said he has missed match play by a stroke on two occasions and two strokes the other time.
“I’ve always been right there on the bubble, just like I am right now,” Burgoon said. Burgoon’s experience at the NCAA Championship helped him make match play this time. The cut is expected to fall at 7 or 8 over.
“Usually, I’ve been really, really nervous because I knew I was right there on the bubble going into this last hole,” Burgoon said. “I still get nervous, but not nearly as much as I used to be because nothing will ever compare to what I was going through on the 18th hole at Inverness.
“I’ve never been that nervous on a golf course, ever.”
