TULSA, Okla. – There were five players who were members of the Oklahoma State golf team last season advancing to match play.
When the second round of this year’s U.S. Amateur Championship takes place Thursday, only two Cowboys will still be playing.
Still in the running are Peter Uihlein, who edged James Sacheck in 19 holes, and Trent Whitekiller, who also had to go 19 holes before beating Wesley Bryan.
On the flip side, Morgan Hoffmann lost on the 19th hole to Charlie Holland; Rickie Fowler fell to Bud Cauley, 3 and 1; and Kevin Tway was edged by Brett Kanda, 1 up.
In fact, Whitekiller, from Sallisaw, Okla., is the only player from the host state still in the competition.
