It’s well-known that Tiger Woods’ fashion sensibility prefers red on Sundays, but this weekend he’ll be doubling up on his favorite color. On Saturday, he’ll be sporting Cardinal red for his alma mater, Stanford.
Woods will be one of six Nike Golf staff players who will showcase their respective school colors and logos at the Deutsche Bank Championship to kick-off the college football season and unveil the company’s new collegiate-licensed apparel line.
Such merchandise have proved successful for other golf companies, too. Examples that immediately come to mind: Ping offers its Voyage carry bag in the appropriate colors for nearly 40 schools, and FootJoy’s custom MyJoys initiative gives college fans and alumni seemingly endless options to design their own shoes; more than 60 schools are available.
Among those expected to join Woods Saturday in their collegiate wardrobe: Paul Casey, Arizona State; Stewart Cink, Georgia Tech; Lucas Glover, Clemson; Anthony Kim, Oklahoma; and Justin Leonard, Texas.
Nike plans to sell its collegiate apparel at golf retailers in select college markets.
