Top Mississippi course lands Champions event

SAUCIER, Miss. – Fallen Oak Golf Club, a Tom Fazio design ranked No. 1 on the list of Golfweek’s Best Courses You Can Play in Mississippi, will host a new Champions Tour event starting in 2010.

The Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic will be played April 30-May 2. The Gulf Coast Business Council is leading a consortium of businesses that are putting on the tournament. Bruno Event Team has been hired to manage the event, including sponsorship sales, marketing, volunteers and operations.

Aside from being the top-ranked public course in Mississippi, Fallen Oak, which is owned by MGM Mirage, is ranked No. 2 on Golfweek’s Best Casino Courses list.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Troon Golf has launched its 2010 Troon Card program, which offers discounts at more than 40 facilities in 15 states and Mexico.

Troon’s National Foursome card, which costs $825, allows the cardholder and three guests to receive discounted green fees and same-day replay rounds of $10 per player. There’s also a National Twosome card, which costs $500. In addition, Troon has state-specific Twosome and Foursome cards for Arizona and California-Nevada. There is an “early bird” discount on cards purchased before Dec. 7.

Notable: Reynolds Landing has merged with Reynolds Plantation, the large Greensboro, Ga., resort. Reynolds Plantation now has 117 holes of golf. Reynolds Landing is now know simply as The Landing. . . .

Thrifty Car Rental was named the official rental car company of the Brunswick Isles Golf Trail. Golf tourists visiting the trail, which stretches 60 miles from Southport, N.C., to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., can receive discounts at the Thrifty counter at Wilmington International Airport. Golfers can get a 10 percent discount, a free upgrade or $15 off a weekly car rental. . . .

Troon Golf added Colonial Golf & Tennis Club of Harrisburg, Pa., and Makai Golf Club at the St. Regis Princeville Resort in Hawaii to its course-management portfolio.
