Anthony Paolucci, No. 6 in the Class of 2011 in the Golfweek Junior Rankings, confirmed with Golfweek that he has given a verbal commitment to USC.
Paolucci, who recently moved to Del Mar, Calif., after living in Dallas, made over 15 unofficial visits to schools over the past two years, his final decision coming down to USC, Stanford, LSU and Texas.
Paolucci, who won the ’08 Junior PGA Championship and was runner-up in the 2007 U.S. Junior, said he chose USC for three reasons:
• He has been working closely with the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, Calif, and “the changes they are making in my physical fitness and golf game are making a difference so I want to stay close to them.”
• He liked the “overall package” at USC – education, variety of quality golf courses, coaching staff, future teammates and the “physical fitness connection to TPI.” Paolucci said TPI and the USC athletic department training staff have a “very close working/research relationship.”
• Staying close to his home and family was important. (USC is about 100 miles from Del Mar and his home course, The Bridges).
Paolucci’s father, Mike, played golf at Ohio State.
