After a nice little break, I am really ready to get after it this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. I spent my off-week in Los Angeles with a childhood friend who lives in Redondo Beach. We practiced a few days at Trump National in Palos Verdes, and I was also fortunate to be able to play Bel Air Country Club with a former Northwestern golfer and alum, Joe Huber. We had an enjoyable day, and it was one of the neatest older clubs I have ever seen.
Before I left L.A., I made the trip back to Palm Springs (no, not because I thought the Hope was still going on) to spend the day working with my instructor, Jason Carbone, who drove in from Phoenix. We were able to get a lot of really great work in, and it has only continued to improve since then. (He is THE best. Thanks, Jason!)
I would highly recommend to everyone at some point in their lives driving up U.S. 1 on the Pacific coast of California while listening to “Ventura Highway” by America (or whatever song you choose).
Ever wonder what life is like for a PGA Tour rookie? Well, Chris Wilson is here to tell you. Wilson, 25, will file a weekly diary on Golfweek.com to give you an insider’s view of the PGA Tour. Follow him on Twitter at twitter.com/TheRealCWilSon.
It is an incredible drive, with views of the ocean and mountains the entire way. On Friday, I picked up my girlfriend from the San Francisco airport and we enjoyed seeing the sights for a few days. I was also fortunate to have gotten in contact with another old friend who is a member at San Francisco Golf Club. Needless to say, we played there Saturday morning and had an incredible time.
Monterey was a welcoming sight this morning as we drove in with blue skies and a chill off the water. I walked a few holes at Pebble on Sunday with putter in hand and then was off to catch the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, my Midwest guys from Indy could not get the job done against a resilient and deserving Saints team from New Orleans. Great to see that city celebrating.
This week, I am playing the Monday pro-am at Monterey Peninsula Country Club, which benefits the Boys & Girls Club. Then I have a Tuesday morning practice round at Pebble, and one at Spyglass on Wednesday morning. I’m looking forward to a great week of golf in one of the coolest places in the world!
Plenty of pictures and maybe a video or two on my Twitter account if anyone is interested (twitter.com/TheRealCWilSon) – shameless plug No. 2.
Thanks for reading, and goodnight from the Pebble Lodge.
