SINGAPORE – Cristie Kerr never thought she’d be in the media room Thursday afternoon after her dismal start at the HSBC Women’s Champions – 2 over after three holes.
A quick putting adjustment on the back nine, however, changed her tournament. Kerr birdied five of the last six holes to finish 4 under, tied with Lorena Ochoa, Angela Stanford and Hee Young Park atop the leaderboard.
“I think that I needed to get my eyes over the ball a little bit more,” Kerr said. “Sometimes I tend to be a little bit on my heels, and it kind of messes up my balance.”
Kerr has long been a student of the game, keeping detailed notes as a junior from her sessions with Jim McLean. She learned quickly that if you can’t make adjustments in the heat of battle, then what happens on the range or the practice green means very little.
