WEEK 12, MATCH 1: Jim McCabe ($1,114,291; 4-7-0) vs. Jeff Babineau ($1,788,076; 5-4-2)

JIM MCCABE

Arnold Palmer Invitational

Site: Orlando, Fla.

Courses: Bay Hill Club and Lodge (7,353 yards, par 72)

Purse: $6 million

Winner’s share: $1.08 million

Best bet: Retief Goosen. Quietly (and does he work in any other manner), he has been putting together a terrific season and getting into a nice sort of rhythm for the majors. Has finished in the top 5 four times already and should be well-tuned after riveting Tavistock Cup competition.

Ace up my sleeve: J.B. Holmes. Hasn’t missed a cut this season, nor in any of his three previous trips to the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Plus, doesn’t a guy from Isleworth always win this tournament?

JEFF BABINEAU

Best bet: Sean O’Hair. No Tiger here, so here’s the next-best story (other than maybe Arnie’s grandson, Sam Saunders, winning). O’Hair spit one away last year at Arnie’s Place, and he drives it well enough to be in the winner’s circle here.

Ace up my sleeve: Pat Perez. Seven starts at Bay Hill, never missed a cut, three top 10s. Has enough game to contend here on Sunday.

WEEK 12, MATCH 2: Sean Martin ($4,180,296; 6-4-1) vs. Lance Ringler ($1,999,747; 5-5-1)

SEAN MARTIN

Best bet: Camilo Villegas. Villegas has made the cut in all three appearances at Bay Hill, but never finished better than 44th, so this selection is predicated more on recent form.

Ace up my sleeve: Rickie Fowler. Fowler has a good track record at courses he’s played before (T-5 at Torrey Pines, 2nd at TPC Scottsdale). That’s no coincidence. Getting accustomed to new courses is one of the most difficult parts of being a rookie. Are you scratching your head, trying to figure out when Fowler played Bay Hill? Try the 2006 HP Boys Junior Championship, which he won by four shots.

LANCE RINGLER

Best bet: Retief Goosen. His track record at Bay Hill has been good. Goosen has made the cut in each of his last five starts at Arnie’s event, and his recent form is looking more and more like a victory coming soon. Goosen, who is No. 11 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index this week, has recorded five top 10s in seven starts this year.

Ace up my sleeve: Henrik Stenson. He has not exactly been making headlines this year. But, Stenson is certainly qualified to be a sleeper this week at Bay Hill. Stenson, ranked 50th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, has made the cut in each of his four starts this year.
