Some thought Candace Schepperle was snubbed by the U.S. Golf Association when she wasn’t picked for this year’s Curtis Cup team.
She recently received a nice consolation prize: A sponsor exemption into the LPGA’s State Farm Classic. The event will be held June 10-13, the same dates as the Curtis Cup. Schepperle was the first alternate for the team.
Schepperle is No. 34 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings and No. 4 in the Golfweek/Titleist Amateur Rankings. She recently finished in the top 4 in the Sally, Harder Hall and Dixie Amateur. Schepperle won last year’s Harder Hall and Dixie, made the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur and made the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open.
The Auburn senior likely will wait until after the U.S. Women’s Amateur, which will be held Aug. 9-15 at Charlotte (N.C.) Country Club, to turn pro, according to her father, David.
