Fairleigh Dickinson is headed back to the NCAA regionals for the third straight year.
The Knights, ranked No. 183 in the Golfweek/Sagarin college rankings, posted a 100-over 964 Sunday at ChampionsGate (Fla.) Golf Club to win their third consecutive Northeast Conference Championship.
Entering the third round, the Knights were nine strokes back of leader Long Island. Fairleigh Dickinson closed with 316 to top Long Island (328), ranked No. 220, by three shots.
Long Island, which posted 967, has finished second to the Knights for two straight years at the conference championship.
Fairleigh Dickinson junior Michele Holzwarth led the Knights with a 12-over 228. Despite a triple-bogey on No. 15, Holzwarth made four birdies en route to a third-round best 3-over 75.
Junior Lisa Warrilow (236) and senior Eva Mayr (242) also finished in the top 10 for Fairleigh Dickinson, taking fourth and ninth place, respectively.
Long Island senior Natalie Desjardins shot a final-round 76 to win the individual title. Desjardins birdied Nos. 15-16 to finishing at 10-over 226, two strokes ahead of defending champ Holzwarth.
It was Desjardin’s first NEC title and ninth individual championship.
