Adorable. Comfortable. Functional.
If any of these adjectives sound like something you might want your next pair of golf shoes to have, then you should check out Sandbaggers golf shoes.
Founded in 1987 in Lewiston, Maine, Sandbaggers began its mission to fill the void in the market for an alternative and more stylish golf shoe. The company started out manufacturing golf sandals for women, beginning with the “Kiltie,” and 23 years later they are still available. The sandal has of course gone through several changes and improvements – for example the shoe no longer has metal spikes – and now the Sandbagger collection has grown to more than 50 golf shoes and sandals in a variety of colors, patterns and styles.
What’s unique about these shoes?
They aren’t your regular, sometimes dull golf shoes. They’re feminine, youthful and very comfortable.
“I have an awesome pair in white, gold and black called the Payson,” said Duramed Futures Tour player Rachel Larson. “At first I was hesitant about how they were going to perform, I swing pretty fast, but they have performed just like any competitive brand. They are so comfortable and I always feel really stable in them.”
The best part is there’s more to these shoes than meets the eye.
They are built with a steel shank to ensure torsion control and lasting support for hours of wear. Also, incorporated into every shoe and sandal is a unique StepSaver Orthotic, which helps reduce foot fatigue. Every shoe is fully lined with a micro-fiber moisture-wicking material that, again, helps with the no-sock factor.
“I build much of the function and comfort elements for the collections from the information I heard directly from the women golfers I meet across the country,” explained Anna Gilbert, head designer of Sandbaggers. “Feedback is crucial to consistently improve our line season after season.”
From a style standpoint, these shoes are wildly different from any other golf shoe competitors. They’re known for their combination of textures and colors, incorporating metallic leathers with silver nail heads and die cut heart trims and accents on the styles that don’t have shoelaces. The most popular style, and a customer favorite, is the Madison. These classic, clean designs feature the slip-on style and come in five different color combinations.
“I coordinate with many apparel company designers to arrange fashion colors for upcoming seasons and I also scour the stores looking for what’s hot in footwear and how I can incorporate those trends into wearable sport shoes,” Gilbert said of the inspiration for the collections. “The goal is to produce footwear that is comfortable and desirable to our loyal customers and women completely new to the brand.”
What should you expect in 2010?
Sandbaggers will continue to improve and impress, starting with the popular grip sole. The company wants to increase the durability of the shoe and has made modifications to the tread pattern to ensure maximum flexibility for comfort while walking. While these shoes are gaining momentum among ladies in the golf industry, Sandbaggers continues to strive to make certain that the shoes continue to be lightweight and comfortable right out of the box.
Also, the company will launch its new and unique “Victoria” slip-on golf shoe, made from a soft, breathable lycra that forms around hard to fit, tired feet. The look is modern in material use but still pays tribute to the classic clean lines of more traditional golf shoes.
From my personal experience, Sandbaggers golf shoes have been everything that this blog has said, no joke. My first pair, the “White Hot Rileys,” were a huge hit. As I was showing them off I quickly saw that I wasn’t the only fan! Some of my fellow golfers were ready to go buy their own pair. I also was pleasantly surprised to get the approval of the men on their “cuteness” factor. On top of the successful reviews, I was seriously impressed with the comfort and stability, too. One important factor I learned about was that when ordering, going down a half size is probably best because they were designed to be worn without socks.
A few bonuses: Sandbaggers introduces new colors, styles and designs every six to seven months to keep us all satisfied! They come with a 90-day manufacturer’s warranty against defects, including a water resistance guarantee. However, it is noted that these golf shoes have been designed for fair-weather play (my kind of golf).
So, ladies, if you feel like your golf shoes need some updating, be sure to check out this pleasing-to-the-eye – and the sole – golf shoe for extraordinary satisfaction.
