CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Pairings for the Quail Hollow Championship were just released. Better get here early to see Tiger Woods’ first round in a regular PGA Tour event. Woods will tee off Quail Hollow’s 10th tee at 7:40 a.m. with fellow major champions Stewart Cink and Angel Cabrera.
The threesome will tee off at 12:50 p.m. on No. 1 in the second round.
Masters champion Phil Mickelson is on the exact opposite side of the draw. His threesome, which will include Jim Furyk and and Rory Sabbatini, will tee off No. 1 at 12:50 p.m. on Thursday. They’ll tee off the 10th hole at 7:40 a.m. for the second round.
Mickelson and Woods will go back-to-back in the media center tomorrow. Mickelson is scheduled to speak at 11:45 a.m., followed by Woods 25 minutes later. Sean O’Hair is scheduled to come in 35 minutes after Woods.
Special precautions will be made for Woods’ group.
The PGA Tour issues stickers that allow reporters to get inside the ropes during play. Those stickers will not allow reporters to follow Woods’ group, though.
The Tour will issue special stickers for Woods’ group in order to limit the number of reporters inside the ropes. The Tour has not issued stickers for a single group since Annika Sorenstam’s appearance at Colonial in 2003.
Increased security is also expected for Woods’ group.
Also of note, Fred Couples and Michael Jordan will pair together in the Quail Hollow pro-am at 12:18 p.m. Wednesday. Jordan served as an assistant captain for last year’s Presidents Cup team, which Couples captained. Jordan is also majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats.
