Iowa State men’s golf coach Jay Horton announced his resignation Monday, effective immediately.
“It has been my pleasure to coach the men’s golf team at Iowa State the past 11 years,” Horton said in a statement. “I thoroughly have enjoyed all my experiences and opportunities at Iowa State University, but I have decided to pursue other opportunities for my own career. I felt it was in the best interest for myself and this program to make this decision now rather than later.”
Horton took over the Iowa State program in 2000, leading the Cyclones to seven tournament titles during his tenure. Iowa State, No. 91 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, finished 10th at the Big 12 Championship last weekend in Trinity, Texas.
“I want to thank Jay for his 11 years of commitment to the ISU men’s golf program,” said Calli Sanders, Iowa State’s senior associate athletics director. “He put his heart and soul into the golf team, and we certainly wish him well in his future endeavors.”
